The Orlando RC Helicopter Society (TORCHS)

The Orlando RC Helicopter Society (TORCHS, AMA club #2410) was started in 1988 to promote building and flying RC helicopters. It is an open club with members from beginners to experts, and members help each other with every part of the hobby. The club flies at its helicopter-only West Field on Ocoee Apopka Rd (County Road 437) in Ocoee, an FAA-recognized FRIA site with grass pads and a covered shelter. Electric, nitro, gas and turbine helis are allowed. Members fly any day; you are most likely to find someone there on Thursday mornings and on Saturday and Sunday. Visiting pilots: AMA members visiting Orlando are welcome. Contact a member first so someone can meet you at the field. Guests must be escorted by a member at all times and show current AMA Full membership. Events: TORCHS hosts Gator’s Winter Bash every December, with an IRCHA Cup regional 3D contest and night flying. The club has also sponsored the Orlando Helicopter Blowout, one of the largest heli events in the country. Meetings: first Monday of the month at West Oaks Mall, with a short business meeting, a tech Q&A and a program. Confirm the time with a member.
