About the club
The Bakersfield Airplane Radio Control Society (BARKS) is AMA club #115, with about 49 members. The club flies at Elk Hills-Buttonwillow Airport (L62), a full-scale airport west of Bakersfield with a 3,260 ft asphalt runway and asphalt pits. Because it is a real airport, pilots must carry a two-way radio and monitor the CTAF on 122.9. Fuel, gas, electric, jets and helicopters are all permitted. Flying is for members and guests accompanied by an AMA member, on set days of the week. The club offers pilot instruction and junior memberships, and holds quarterly meetings at the field.
