About the club
Harbor Soaring Society (AMA #128) is a radio control glider club in Costa Mesa that calls itself the oldest chartered soaring club in the AMA, with roots back to 1962. Members fly winch-launched, hi-start, discus-launch and free-flight sailplanes, and many compete in Southern California soaring contests. The club flies at a small area inside Fairview Park under a partnership with the City of Costa Mesa. Only non-powered gliders are allowed, on the first and third Saturdays of each month, weather permitting. Everyone flying in the park needs a City of Costa Mesa model aircraft permit. Newcomers get free introductory lessons on club gliders and radios, and the club does school outreach and publishes a long-running newsletter.
