Hours7 AM until 1 hour before sunset. The park is open Wednesday - Sunday (closed Monday and Tuesday) and about 10 holidays a year.

Rules for visitors

Glow, gas, electric and ducted fans. No turbines or jets. 400 ft ceiling. AMA required.

Recreational pilots need an FAA TRUST certificate, and aircraft over 250 g must be FAA registered.

About this field

The Model Hobby Area at LA County's Whittier Narrows Recreation Area in South El Monte is home to the San Gabriel Valley RC League. The paved runways date back to the 1960s, and the site has a clubhouse, covered shelter, restrooms, power and charging, setup tables and a heli pad. Airplanes, pylon racers, helicopters, park flyers and float planes are flown here.

Paved control-line circles (including a fenced speed circle) sit next to the RC field. LA County also lists Whittier Narrows as one of its two designated places to fly drones.
