South Bay Soaring Society (SBSS)

The South Bay Soaring Society (SBSS) is AMA club #163, a San Jose-based glider club with about 43 members. Its main thermal field is Brigantino Park in Hollister, a large winch-launch site that is an FAA-Recognized Identification Area. Members also fly hand-launch and slope gliders at Coyote Hills in Fremont and at other regional sites. The club holds a monthly thermal-duration contest at Brigantino Park, offers free sailplane instruction, and meets on the 2nd Wednesday of each month at 6:30 pm on Zoom. Membership is open and guests are welcome, with AMA membership required. Flying is soaring only, daylight hours, with no turbines.
